Patrol

The officers’ duties include responding to all calls for service on a 24-hour basis, handling special events and pro-actively patrolling neighborhoods along with the business districts. Patrol also investigates misdemeanor cases and provides warrant service and field training. As a community oriented policing agency, our patrol officers and specialized functions work diligently to build trust-based relationships with every citizen they encounter. Every call is important to our agency.
Traffic Team
The goal of the Walterboro Police department Traffic Team is the public safety of Walterboro motorist and the smooth flow of traffic. The Traffic Team patrols the entire city and often are the first units on scene for traffic related calls for service.
Services include but are not limited to:
- Traffic accident investigation
- Traffic enforcement
- Parking enforcement
- DUI enforcement
- Hit & Run accident investigation
- Special events
Bicycle Patrol
Bicycle patrols increase police visibility and facilitate cooperative relationships between residents and law enforcement. Bicycle patrols also benefit law enforcement because they are quick, quiet, and can pursue suspects through areas police cars cannot reach. Typically, our department bicycle patrol officers are the same officers who are on traffic patrol.
Speed Monitor Trailer (Speed Sign)
The Speed Monitor Trailer has been a huge success in Walterboro. It is equipped with a Traffic Monitor Computer. This computer documents the vehicle speeds, number of vehicles and actual times that vehicles travel on the roadway. These traffic studies are important because it allows the city to spend time enforcing and slowing traffic during high violation times as indicated through the computer. The sign itself allows drivers to realize their speed and slow themselves down versus the officer having to take enforcement action (a ticket).
